What sherpa does in a bar
The pile scatters light and absorbs sound, so a cluster of these reads warmer than the same room with leather. It also holds onto everything: a dropped crisp, a splash of stout, a mark from a hand that has been on the bar.
Where the room is a lounge with table service and a cleaning routine, that is manageable. Where it is a walk-up bar, sherpa is the wrong material and leather is the right one.
Cylindrical back
Round backs have no corner to catch on the next stool and no edge to wear first. On a narrow floor where stools are pushed together at close, that is worth more than the shape is worth in a photograph.
