Adjustable timber stool, metal base
Timber seat on a steel base at two fixed heights is the version of an adjustable stool that does not need a mechanism, and on a bar floor that is usually the better buy.

Two heights instead of a lift
Lifts are bought to cover a range nobody has measured yet. Once the counter exists, two fixed heights cover the same ground with no cartridge to wear and no column to stiffen. The saving is in maintenance, not in price.
It also means the frame never has a telescoping joint, which is the part of an adjustable stool that shows dirt first.
Timber on steel
The seat and back carry the warmth and the base carries the load. That split lets a slim timber back sit on a base that is stiff enough for bar height, without the leg section growing to match.
