Carbon-finish timber stool
Carbon grain is a finish that reads as dark timber rather than as paint, which is what makes it work in a room where black would be too flat and walnut too traditional.

What the finish is doing
Carbon finishes are a translucent stain over a visible grain, so the wood still reads at a metre and the colour holds under warm or cold light. Paint at the same darkness loses the grain and turns the stool into a silhouette.
On a floor that gets kicked, the same finish touches up better than paint: a mark can be blended rather than sprayed.
Light frame, five colourways
Light frames let a dark stool be moved by one person at close. On a room that is re-set nightly, that matters more than the weight rating on the drawing.
