Why 1020 mm keeps winning
Counters are rarely built to the standard that was published: a 1050 mm bar with a 40 mm top lands at 1010, a 950 mm counter with a thick upstand reads taller. At 1020 mm overall the stool covers the middle of that spread and still leaves the knee room a seated guest needs.
It is also the height where a stool looks right beside a 750 mm table without dominating it.
Fabric on a small seat
