New Chinese style timber stool, H950 mm
The new Chinese frame is a rectilinear one: straight legs, a square seat frame and a back that rises past the seat line on two posts, which is a shape a guest can grip when they stand up.

Grip points
Most stool backs are panels, and a panel gives a hand nothing to hold. On a frame with two exposed posts the guest can put a hand on the post and pull themselves up, which for anyone older or carrying a bag is the difference between sitting down and not.
It is a small design decision with a real effect on how long a counter gets used.
Deep colours on timber
Bottle green and burgundy on a timber frame are the two colours that read as traditional without looking like a period reproduction. Both hide a mark better than a pale cover, and both are re-coverable without touching the frame.
