Contemporary Nordic timber stool
Standard size on a timber stool is usually a sign that the maker has one good proportion and has not chased every centimetre of a catalogue, and that is not a bad thing to buy.

The standard proportion
Roughly 450 mm across and a 750 mm seat with a seat at 750 mm is the proportion that has survived every change of style in the last century, because it is the smallest seat that takes a full-grown guest and the largest that leaves a walk line beside it.
Sizes outside that band are a project decision, not a catalogue one. If the counter really is 980 mm, the frame should be drawn for it rather than the seat raised on a taller column.
Timber, finished plain
Plain finishing shows the species rather than hiding it, which means the timber grade is on display and not just the shape. That is why this frame is offered on request with a sample of the actual board before the order is confirmed.
