French style stool with rattan detail
Rattan set into a timber back is a two-material joint, and the frame has to be built around the panel rather than cut to accept it afterwards, which is where most versions of this stool fail.

The panel joint
Woven rattan is a sheet, and a sheet in a solid timber frame has to be able to move or it splits at the corners. The frames that last have the panel in a groove with room to expand; the ones that fail have it stapled to a rebate and a visible split at the first dry winter.
That is why this build is more expensive than the look suggests, and why the cheap versions are all in lighter colours, where the split shows less.
1100 mm and the counter it answers
At this height the stool is made for a bar top rather than a counter: the seat sits around 750 mm and the back runs to 1100, which is level with a standard bar surface. Against a 900 mm counter the same stool puts the back well above the top and the proportions go wrong.
