Seal every face or seal none
Timber sealed on the face and left raw underneath absorbs moisture from the underside, which is where the air is dampest and where nobody looks. The result is a top that cups upward with the face in compression. Every face and both ends are sealed here, which costs a few minutes per top and removes the failure.
The same applies to the frame joints: where a steel tube meets timber, a gasket goes between them, so water does not sit in a capillary gap that never dries.
Stainless fixings, again
Zinc-plated bolts are the first thing to fail in a covered outdoor setting, and the failure shows as a rust streak down a leg. Stainless costs a small premium and removes that category of complaint entirely.
Covered outdoor is a specific promise
This set is specified for a terrace with a roof or a courtyard with shelter. It is not designed for direct rain, and the timber needs dry spells between wettings. Where the piece will be fully exposed, the stainless-steel set is the correct answer and we will say so rather than sell this one into a situation it will fail in.
