Stainless fixings are the whole specification outdoors

Zinc-plated bolts under a powder-coated frame last one or two winters before the plating goes and a rust stain runs down the leg. Stainless fixings cost a few percent more and remove the failure entirely. The fixings are also the part nobody sees, which is why they are the part that gets downgraded first when a quote is squeezed.

Sealed joints matter for the same reason. Where a steel frame meets timber, water sits in the gap and the timber takes it. Every joint on this set has a gasket rather than metal against timber.

Covered outdoor, and the honest limit of that

This set is specified for a covered terrace or a courtyard with a roof over it. It is not a full-weather set and we do not sell it as one: the timber top needs to dry out between wettings, which a covered terrace allows and a fully exposed deck does not. Where the piece will be rained on directly, the stainless-steel set is the answer instead.

Minimalist means fewer joints to fail

The frame has four legs, two rails and a top. There is no apron, no stretcher and no decorative element to trap water. That is a maintenance decision disguised as a style.
