The 620 mm table with a 440 mm sofa
Whiskey rooms work at a lower table than a bar counter, because the activity is a glass and a conversation rather than a plate. At 620 mm the top sits just above knee height for a person on a 440 mm sofa, so the glass is reachable without sitting forward and the table does not cut the room in half visually.
Getting this wrong is common: a standard 750 table with a low sofa leaves the guest reaching down all evening, and the table reads as too tall in the photographs.
Leather that ages rather than wears out
In a room like this the leather is meant to develop a patina, which means an aniline or semi-aniline finish rather than a heavy coated one.
