Bolted rather than welded, and the cost of that
Bolted frames can be taken apart and stored flat; welded ones cannot. The trade-off is that bolts work loose, so a bolted frame has to be designed for it: the joints here have a machined shoulder that takes the load rather than relying on bolt tension alone, and the bolts are a size that can be checked with a spanner during a quarterly walk-round.
For a venue that clears its floor twice a month, that is a fair trade. For a room that never moves its furniture, the welded version is cheaper and has nothing to check.
Why a light frame suits a minimal design
The style calls for the thinnest section that will do the job, and iron at 25 mm is close to that limit at 1050 mm. Thinner and the top will deflect when a person leans on it; thicker and the piece stops reading as minimal. The detachable joint is what allows the section to stay light, because the joint carries the load rather than the tube.
Top shapes on one frame
Round and square tops share the same frame and the same plate, so a room can mix shapes without a second frame type. Mixing is common where a square top goes against a wall and a round one goes in the open.
