All-metal is a cleaning specification before it is a style
Taproom floors get mopped nightly, hosed after a spill, and hit by a keg trolley most weeks. Timber legs take water at the grain where the finish has worn, and once water is in the end grain the finish lifts from underneath. Fully welded steel has no end grain and no joint for water to sit in, and the powder coat can be touched up locally rather than the piece being taken out of service.
The trade-off is that steel is cold and loud. The seat is sealed ply with a slight crown so it does not hold water, and the glides are nylon rather than steel, which takes most of the scrape noise off a hard floor.
Welded frame, replaceable feet
The frame is welded as one piece, so there is nothing to tighten. The part that wears out on a metal chair is the foot: the glide wears through and the tube starts cutting into the floor. The glides here are a push-fit replacement, which is a two-minute job per chair rather than a reason to replace the set.
Stacking matters for a room that changes
The chairs stack, which matters in a taproom that clears a floor for an event twice a month. Four high chairs take the floor space of one when stacked, and the tables knock down flat.
