Commercial Leather Booth And Table Bar Set
The card seat is the oldest seating idea in a pub and still the one that fits the most covers into the least floor, provided the booth depth is right.

500 mm of seat depth is the number the room turns on
Booth at 450 mm depth seats more people per metre and is uncomfortable after twenty minutes, because the back never gets support and the sitter ends up perched forward. At 550 mm the seat is comfortable and the table has to move out, which costs floor. 500 mm is the compromise that most pub rooms land on, and it is the number to fix before the floor plan is drawn rather than after.
Seat height is the second number: 450 mm against a 750 mm top gives the 300 mm gap that lets a plate sit in front of a person without their knees meeting the underside.
The back is where a cheap booth shows
One sheet of foam behind a cover looks right for a year and then flattens where shoulders actually rest. The back here is built in panels over a hardwood frame with a shaped top rail, so the padding holds its profile and the top edge does not fold over.
Measured to the wall, not to a module
Booth runs are made to the length given on the drawing, with a scribe allowance at each end so the run meets a wall that is not straight. Two booths at a nominal 1200 mm will not fill a 2500 mm wall; the run is cut to 2500 and the seats are distributed across it.
