Round pedestal bar table, 1050 mm
1050 mm is the height where a guest stops sitting and starts leaning, and the whole case for this table is that the pedestal lets four people lean without a leg in the way.

Eight hundred across, one column under it
At 800 mm four people can stand at the table with a drink each and nobody has to hold their glass at chest height. That is the size a group forms around at the end of a run, and the size that a 600 mm top never manages because the fifth person gives up and stands at the bar instead.
Carrying 800 mm on one column is a question of base weight rather than column thickness. The disc has to be wide enough that a lean on one edge does not lift the opposite side, and heavy enough that the table does not walk across a polished floor in a busy hour.
Height adjustable, at the base
The column adjusts so the table can be levelled to the floor rather than the floor being blamed for the wobble. On a Victorian tile or a poured concrete slab, that is the difference between a table that is used and one that is avoided.
It also lets a terrace table be set down a little where the paving falls away, without a second order.
What a wood face does that veneer does not
On an MDF core the top stays flat, which is what a bar needs: a top that cups holds a puddle in the middle and a glass that never sits steady. The face is the part that takes the wear, so it is the part worth specifying — a lacquered face resists spillage, an oiled one can be repaired at the table.
