Shallow radius, big effect
At 1600 mm inside radius the curve is gentle enough that the back still reads as a straight wall from across the room, but the two ends turn in far enough to hold a conversation.
That is what makes it usable in a narrow room. At 1100 mm a half-round needs a clear floor of over three metres; this needs two.
Cane and upholstery, side by side
The cane occupies the upper back and the upholstery the lower, which is the arrangement that works in a cold room: the part a guest sits against is a wipeable cover, and the part that takes the coat hooks is a material that can be repaired.
Cane also does something for sound. Solid curved backs reflect conversation back into the booth, and a woven panel breaks that up.
Two halves, because of a door
At this radius the piece cannot go through a standard opening in one piece. It ships as two halves jointed on the centre line, with the frames already carrying the plates.
The joint falls in a mullion between cane segments, so it is invisible from both sides once assembled.
