Green that holds at low light
Most greens lose their green at 2400 K. They read as black in the shadow and as olive where a lamp hits them, and the two never agree. Bottle green has enough blue in it to keep its depth when the light drops.
That is why it appears so often in cellars and back bars, and why it looks wrong in a bright room: at daylight it reads as a heavy colour doing a job the room does not need.
The timber surround
The booth sits inside a timber back panel with returns at both ends, so from the room it reads as a piece of joinery with upholstery in it rather than a seat against a wall.
That surround also carries the fixing, which keeps bolts out of the upholstered back. In a listed building where the wall cannot be drilled in the usual places, it is often the detail that makes the install possible.
Tufting under wall lights
Wall lights at 1200 mm rake across a buttoned back and produce a shadow under every diamond. That is the effect this back is built for, and it needs the tuft depth held at 22 mm so the shadows stay regular along the run.
Vary the depth and the back reads as unevenly padded under the same lights.
