Three sides, one way in
The pod closes the back and both ends, and leaves one side open. That arrangement gives the two people inside a sense of being somewhere, without the acoustics and the sightlines of a room.
It also solves a planning problem: pods can sit in the middle of a floor where a booth run would have to be built against a wall, and they can be moved when the layout changes.
1200 mm on the outer face
The back runs to 1200 mm, which is above the head of a seated guest and roughly at the shoulder of somebody standing. From the aisle the pod reads as a solid object; from inside, the open end keeps the room visible.
Tufting on the outside only. The inside faces are plain, because a buttoned surface behind your head is something to lean against badly rather than on.
Upholstered to the floor
No plinth, so the pod reads as one volume and there is no line at the bottom to catch a mop. That means the base has to be built to take knocks, and the cover on it should be a heavier grade than the seat.
Where the floor is uneven, concealed levelling feet are built in and set before the pod is stood up. After it is in place they are not reachable.
