Red-brown under black
Rubberwood stained red-brown reads warmer than walnut at a fraction of the cost, and under a black cover that warmth is what stops the piece from looking like office furniture.
The colour is doing structural work too: it is the only line separating the back from the seat and the seat from the floor. Take it out and the booth becomes a black mass with a shadow under it.
Forty-five millimetres of reveal
The frame shows above the back and at both ends. That band is what makes the piece read as a frame with a cover in it, and it is where hands land when somebody leans over the booth to talk to the next table.
Timber takes that contact. Upholstery at the same point goes shiny in a season and then splits.
Four legs, not a box
Legs rather than a plinth keeps the floor visible under the booth, which in a room with a good floor is most of the point. It also means the piece can be moved for a deep clean without being dismantled.
On a floor out of level by more than 3 mm across the footprint, tell us. The legs come with adjustable feet as an option, and it is cheaper than shimming on site.
