Put the white inside the frame
White on a white base takes every scuff and mark along its bottom 200 mm, which is exactly where boots and chair legs land. Wrapping a dark frame around the piece moves all of that onto the frame.
The frame also closes the corners. Where the cover turns a corner it is the first place a white vinyl shows a grey shadow, and here the cover never turns a corner at all.
Twenty millimetres of tuft on white
White shows shadow better than any other colour, which means tufting reads at shallower depths. Twenty millimetres here gives a clear diamond pattern without the wells becoming the thing people notice.
Tuft depth also controls how easy the back is to clean, and on white that matters more than on any other finish. Buttons are covered in the same vinyl.
Walnut around white
Dark walnut and white is a contrast that holds under any light. Under warm light the white goes cream and the walnut goes warmer, and the two stay separate. Under cool light both go slightly blue and they still stay separate.
That reliability is why fit-outs keep returning to it, and why it is the safe answer when a scheme is being decided late.
