Teeth instead of a screen
Solid screens between two pairs cost 22 mm of material and close the view. Fins at 150 mm on centre give the same visual separation at seated height, at a third of the mass, and let everything above 1150 mm stay open.
From across the room the comb reads as a rhythm; from the table it reads as a back you can lean against without being in a box.
Oak, and the finish that keeps it
Oak under 2700 K goes honey. Under daylight tubes it stays pale. The finish here is a clear lacquer with a UV blocker, which slows that shift rather than stopping it.
More honest is a light stain that starts where the oak would have arrived in year three. Tell us which direction the room's light goes and we will say which is the better call.
Fins take the load
The outer fins run to the floor and are anchored there. That means the unit holds itself up at the open end without a second wall fixing, and the comb above the back does not rely on the upholstered section for support.
Load on a fin at 1150 mm is roughly twice what the same fin sees at 900 mm. The section is sized for that, not for the look of it.
