Cognac in front of red brick is one of the few pairings where two warm materials make each other read cooler instead of muddier, and it depends on the black frame between them.

Black between two warms
Cognac leather against red brick is a pairing that goes wrong without something between it. Two warm surfaces meeting directly read as one muddy brown mass, and the seam between them turns into the only line in the room.
The black steel rail under the seat does that job in 60 mm. It gives both warm surfaces an edge to stop at, and the eye reads three materials instead of two.
Tufting that survives a brick room
Brick rooms are dusty. Mortar joints shed, and the dust lands on every horizontal surface in the room, including the wells of a tufted back.
Twenty-four millimetres of tuft depth is the number we hold here. Deeper and the wells become collectors, and in a brick room that means a visible grey shadow along the whole back within a month.
Steel rail, not a timber box
On a floor that has been patched and levelled more than once, a steel rail levels with shims and does not care about the surface. Timber would have to be scribed along its whole length.
The rail also puts 60 mm of shadow under the seat, which is where the sweepings go and where a vacuum head fits.
