Sections, and where the joint goes
Past 2.4 m the crate will not go through a door, so a long run is built in numbered sections. The question is not whether there is a joint, it is whether the joint lands behind a button column or between diamonds.
Between diamonds leaves a visible break in the rhythm once the two halves settle. Behind a button column, the joint is hidden inside a shadow that is already part of the pattern, and nobody finds it.
Deep tufting on a long back
130 mm diamonds at 25 mm depth give this back its density. That is a deeper tuft than we would put on a short unit, because on a six-metre wall the shadows are what carry the pattern, and shallow tufts vanish past three metres of viewing distance.
The trade is cleaning. Twenty-five millimetres is still reachable with a cloth. Past 35 mm a tufted back stops being cleanable and starts being a dust trap.
Chestnut, and what a long run does to a colour
On a six-metre run the eye has enough surface to see a dye shift. Two rolls of the same reference will read as two colours when they meet at a section joint.
Every long run is therefore cut from one roll or from rolls with the same lot number, and the sections are numbered in the order they were cut so the installer puts them up in sequence.
