Leather Pub Booth Sofa, Durable Long Bench Seating
Velvet and cane are both materials that change with handling, which is why they work together and why neither belongs on the part of the piece that gets wiped.

Velvet where it can survive
Velvet on a seat is a reasonable risk. Velvet on a back at shoulder height, where coats and bag straps drag across it every night, is not. The pile crushes in one direction and never comes back.
So the velvet stops at 700 mm and cane takes over above it. The material that improves with handling is exactly where the handling happens.
Rust in a warm room
Rust is one of the few colours that gets better under 2700 K. It deepens rather than going brown, and it holds against timber where most reds fight it.
The pile is a cotton velvet at 40 000 cycles rather than a synthetic at 100 000. Synthetic velvet resists wear and reads flat, which defeats the point of using velvet.
Direction matters on velvet
Velvet has a nap. Cut two panels in opposite directions and they read as two shades in daylight and identical at night, which is the worst combination for a fit-out inspection.
Every panel here is cut in the same direction and marked on the back. Where a seat pad is replaced later, the direction is stamped on the frame under it.
