Nordic Retro Style Solid Wood Rattan Sofa Booth Seating

Cane above the shoulder line is a wear decision. It takes the coat hooks and the back of the head, and it lets the back breathe where a solid vinyl panel would hold the heat.

Cane above the shoulder, vinyl below

The upper third of a booth back is where coats go, where heads lean, and where a solid vinyl panel traps the heat coming off the people in front of it. Cane in that band does three things at once: it takes the wear, it lets the back pass air, and it breaks the mass of the piece so a tall booth does not read as a barrier.

The band starts at 700 mm and runs to 1000 mm. Below that the back is vinyl, because that is the part that gets sat against and the part that a cloth goes over at the end of a shift.

The rail does the work, not the cane

Cane has almost no structural value on its own. It sits in a rebate in a timber rail at the top and a second rail at the bottom, and those rails are what hold the back straight. The frame is 30 mm rubberwood at the top, 22 mm at the rebate.

Woven in six-step pattern rather than the open square mesh. Six-step hides a broken strand better and looks like a decision; square mesh looks like a fault when one strand goes.

Sage, and where it stops

Pale green over timber is a combination that goes grey if the timber is too warm. The stain here is a light walnut rather than an orange-toned one, which keeps the green reading green under 2700 K lighting.

Send the lamp temperature and the sample goes out under a matched source, because that is the only way to tell whether a green is going to hold.
