Two colours need one hard line
Caramel over black only works if the change happens exactly where the geometry changes. The tufting stops at the seat line, the piping runs along that line, and the black pad starts below it. Any softening, an overlap or a shadow gap, and the eye reads the join as a repair.
The piping is the same leather as the back, cut on the bias. Skiver offcuts are what usually get used here, and they fail at the corners within a year because they have no stretch in the right direction.
Tufting that stops where the sitting starts
Diamonds that carry on down into the seat pad look generous on a drawing and crush flat in service. The padding under a seated guest takes a different load from the padding behind a shoulder, so the two are built as separate panels with the tufting confined to the back.
Tuft depth is 20 mm. Shallow enough that the wells clean out with a cloth, deep enough that the diamonds hold their edge across a 120 mm grid.
The back at 1080 mm
At this height the back covers the head of an average seated guest without enclosing them. Sit it next to a 1150 mm unit and the difference is visible; sit it in a room on its own and it reads as a tall booth that does not block the view.
Anything past 1200 mm in a low room starts to feel like a compartment. Below 900 mm the tufting loses its proportions.
