Where a plastic shell is the right answer
Beer gardens, smoking terraces and any floor that gets hosed at close are the places where a moulded shell beats timber and beats upholstery. Nothing soaks in, nothing swells, and a chair that has been out in the rain all week is dry enough to sit on after one wipe.
The limit is heat. Shells left stacked in direct summer sun creep out of shape under load, which is why stacked chairs belong under cover and not against a south wall.
Stacking height is a transport number
How many chairs fit on a pallet decides the delivered cost more than the unit price does. This shell stacks to a fixed pitch because the seat and the leg tips are moulded to locate into each other, so the stack is stable at twelve high and can be strapped as one unit.
Leg tips are the first thing to wear. They are moulded as part of the leg here rather than pushed in as caps, so there is no cap to lose and no socket to split.
