Velvet curved-back stool, chrome base
Curved backs on a chrome column are the silhouette that has replaced the tube-and-cushion stool in new bars, and it works because the curve does the structural job a back frame used to do.

Why the curve holds
Curved backs carry load along their own surface instead of through a joint at either end, so the frame behind it can be thin. That is the engineering reason a shell back looks lighter than an upholstered back of the same size, and why a cheap copy of it has to add a steel hoop that the original does not need.
On a swivel base the curve also keeps the guest centred: a flat back lets them lean off the axis and the seat turns with them.
Chrome, and the fingerprints
Polished chrome shows every hand mark within one service. That is a maintenance fact, not a defect, and the answer is either a wipedown at close or a brushed finish instead of a polished one. Brushed chrome hides the marks and loses the mirror effect the room was designed around.
