Gas lift stool, 845–1055 mm
845 to 1055 mm is a 210 mm range, which is the difference between a counter at 900 and a bar top at 1100 — one SKU that covers both, and that is the only honest reason to buy a gas lift.

What a 210 mm range actually buys
Two things. First, a fit-out with a low counter on one wall and a high top on the other can be furnished from one order. Second, a room that changes use — a back area that is seated early in the evening and standing later — can be re-set by the staff in a couple of minutes rather than re-furnished.
What it does not buy is a stool that suits every guest. At the bottom of its range a gas lift exposes more column than a fixed stool of the same height, and that is where a cheap cartridge shows itself: the seat sinks through the evening and has to be pumped back up.
Cartridge, footring and the closing shift
The cartridge is a consumable. On a stool that is adjusted twice a night it lasts years; on one adjusted fifty times a night it does not, and there is no maintenance that changes that. Where adjustment is constant, buy the fixed height version and accept one counter height.
The footring has to move with the seat or it is useless: a ring fixed at one height is at the wrong height for half the range. On this frame the ring is mounted to the column and travels with it, which keeps the seated posture right at both ends of the range.
