Metal counters and noise
Steel counters are loud. Glass put down on a steel top rings, and in a room with hard walls the sound accumulates. The fix is not to change the material but to break the ring: a 30 mm top with a folded edge and a timber core behind the front panel damps most of it, and the stools have nylon glides rather than steel feet.
Where the room is already acoustically live, a steel counter should be paired with a timber or stone service top and steel only on the front.
Bolted sections and site tolerance
No bar carcass is square to the millimetre, so a counter that arrives welded as one length will not fit. Shipping it in bolted sections with slotted fixings means the sections can be aligned to the room rather than the room to the counter.
Seat height at 780 mm
At 1050 mm counter height, a 780 mm seat leaves a 270 mm gap to the underside, which is enough for a thigh but not enough to swing a leg. That is correct for a counter: guests sit square on rather than turned, and the stool stays tucked.
