The cube is a carcass with a light in it
The cube is a steel core with a diffuser panel wrapped around it, so the load from the top goes into the frame rather than into the acrylic. Cheaper versions put a light box under a loose top, and the first guest who sits on the edge of one cracks the panel.
The driver sits in the base where it can be reached by lifting the top off, which means a failed driver is a ten-minute swap rather than a table going back to the workshop.
DMX or remote
Remote control is enough for a single cube in a private room. Thirty cubes need DMX so the colour is one scene rather than thirty remote controls, and DMX also lets the cubes follow the music or the room's lighting desk. The specification has to be decided before the wiring goes in, because retrofitting a data run under a finished floor is a demolition job.
Black leather against coloured light
Black leather under coloured LEDs goes the colour of the light, so the seating appears to change with the room. That is the effect the cube set is designed around: the furniture stays constant and the room changes, and the leather is the surface the colour lands on.
