Strand-woven bamboo and why it behaves
Strand-woven bamboo is made from strips of the culm compressed with a resin binder, and the resulting board is denser and more dimensionally stable than solid timber of the same thickness. On a bar top that means a 25 mm board stays flat over a span where a 25 mm oak top would cup within a season.
The binder is also why bamboo holds a stain evenly. Solid oak takes stain unevenly across the growth rings and needs a conditioner; bamboo is uniform, so a tinted finish comes out the same across the whole top.
Green upholstery against pale bamboo
Deep green against pale yellow-brown bamboo is a cool-on-warm pairing, and it works because the two are separated in tone by enough to read at a distance. The bench runs are the visual weight in the room and the bamboo tops stay light, which keeps a small floor from looking heavy.
The vinyl is the practical choice over the bench because a bench gets slid along rather than sat on, and a woven fabric would abrade at the seat edge within a year.
Bamboo pole or steel frame
Bamboo pole frames carry the theme, and they are specified with a steel core where the span is long, because a hollow culm will crush at the joint under a 1050 mm run. Steel frames are the cheaper and stronger option where the theme matters less than the load.
