Three table shapes, one room

Round tables suit a corner where two guests face each other, square tables suit four in a group, and a narrow rectangle along a wall seats three without pushing into the circulation route. Buying all three against one leg and one finish means the room has variety without looking assembled from leftovers.

The tops are all 30 mm from the same stain batch, so the shades match under the room's lighting. That is the detail that fails when tables are bought a few at a time over a year.

Brown on brown, and how to keep it readable

Brown leather against brown timber closes up into one mass unless the two tones are separated. The leathers here sit a shade lighter and warmer than the tops, so the seating reads as an object against the table rather than merging with it. Under a warm lamp that difference is the whole composition.

Where the room is lit cooler, the same set reads flat and the answer is a lighter top rather than a lighter leather.

The two-seat sofa

Two seats at 1700 mm is the longest sofa that still lets a guest at either end reach a table without leaning. Longer sofas look generous in a photograph and are unusable in practice, because the middle seat has no table and no arm.
