Detachable joints and where they fail
Every knock-down table fails at the joint between column and top, because that is where the bending moment from a lean lands. Screwed flanges work loose in a season; a bayonet with a taper seats tighter as the load comes on, so it does not develop the wobble that makes a table feel cheap.
The trade-off is that a bayonet needs a machined collar, which costs more to make than three screws and a plate. It is the difference between a table that can be taken apart fifty times and one that can be taken apart twice.
Round and square in one order
The same column and disc take a 700 mm round top or a 700 mm square top, so a floor can mix the two without stock duplication. Round tops suit circulation because there is no corner to walk into; square tops pack tighter against a wall. Ordering both against one base type means a room can be re-planned from one layout to the other by swapping tops.
Finish choice for a working floor
Matte black hides scuffs at the base, which is where every table takes its damage, and it does not show the fingerprint marks a satin finish collects. The steel top is the practical choice over timber for a room where tables get moved weekly, because there is no finish to lift at the edge.
