Forty millimetres of oak is about 28 kg
At 1050 mm that weight sits above the frame, so the frame has to be rigid enough that the top does not act as a lever on it. The frames here are welded steel at a heavier section than a dining table would use, and the top is fixed through threaded inserts at four points rather than along a continuous rail, because a continuous rail on a moving timber top becomes the thing that splits it.
The top is finished in hard-wax oil where the room wants a matte, natural look, and in lacquer where it needs to survive a nightly wipe. Both are serviceable: oil can be spot-repaired, lacquer needs the whole face redone.
Industrial without the theatre
Everything visible is doing something. There are no fake rivets, no applied plates and no distressed paint. What makes it read as industrial is the honest section sizes and the exposed weld, both of which are cheaper than the decorative alternatives.
Two heights, one drawing
The same table is made at 750 for seating with a matching 450 chair. Where a room mixes standing and seated zones the two are drawn together so the frames line up and the finish batch is shared.
