Visible structure only works when the structure is real
Industrial style leaves the frame on show, which is fine as long as the frame is the part carrying load. Where a decorative steel leg is bolted onto a timber apron that is doing the actual work, the joint between them becomes a place where the two materials move against each other, and the fixing works loose. Here the steel frame carries the top and the load goes down the legs, so there is nothing hidden behind the visible structure.
The 35 mm top is thicker than a dining top because it is held only at its ends. Thinner tops spanning the same distance between two steel rails will deflect under a person leaning on the middle of it.
Why the end grain is sealed twice
End grain takes water roughly ten times faster than face grain, and on a table it is the edge that gets the spill. Two coats on the end against one on the face is not over-specification; it is the difference between a top that stays flat and one that cups along its length after a wet winter.
Chairs at two heights
The chairs are available at 750 for the bar-height table and at 450 for a floor-height version. Both come in the same frame and seat, so a room that mixes the two heights does not look like two orders.
