Aluminium terrace stool
Aluminium is chosen on a terrace for one reason: the staff can carry twenty of them inside in the time it takes to carry eight steel ones.

What aluminium buys and costs
Aluminium weighs about a third of steel for the same section, which is the whole argument on a terrace that is cleared and re-set every night. It also does not rust, so a wet floor and a winter under a cover do not end its life.
What it costs is stiffness. Aluminium flexes more under the same load, so the section has to be larger, and a cheap aluminium stool feels light in the wrong way — not easy to carry, but unsteady when someone leans back.
Outdoor cushions and the closing shift
Where the seat is padded outdoors, the cushion has to come in at night or it will hold water by the third week. Terrace stools either carry a quick-dry pad that clips off, or a bare seat that is simply wiped.
