Channel tufted velvet stool, H950 mm
Channel tufting runs the seams vertically instead of in a diamond, which is why the same velvet reads as a 1930s bar rather than as a bedroom chair.

Why the seam direction matters
Vertical channels let the eye run up the back and make a stool look taller than it is; diamond tufting does the opposite and makes it look wide. On a counter where the seat has to hold its own beside a tall bar front, the vertical run is doing structural work for the room, not just decoration.
It also wears better in one specific way: the channels sit on a padded shell that can be re-covered channel by channel, where a diamond pattern has to be re-tufted as a whole.
Velvet at 950 mm
At this height the back sits against a guest's shoulders and takes continuous contact, so velvet's tendency to flatten shows first at the top, not the seat. Brushing it back after cleaning is the difference between a cover that lasts three years and one that looks tired in one.
