Iron stools weigh what they need to weigh
The high stool is a lever: everything above the seat is pushing on a base that is only 400 mm across. Iron at 30 mm square with solid feet puts the weight where it is needed, low and wide, so a guest leaning back on a 750 mm stool does not lift the front feet off the floor. Aluminium of the same section weighs a third and tips.
The trade-off is handling. Iron stools are carried two at a time, not six, and that is a real cost on a floor that gets cleared weekly.
Leather seat height and footring position
At a 750 mm seat with the footring at 260 mm the guest's knee sits at roughly 90 degrees, which is the position the leg can hold for a whole evening. Move the ring to 300 mm and the knee opens; the guest slides forward and the back of the stool stops being used.
Matte iron and cleaning
Matte black iron shows a chalky mark where a cleaning cloth with too much chemical has been used, and that mark is difficult to remove. The finish here is a satin-matte rather than dead flat, which takes a wipe without going patchy.
